And just like that, the world stops for a minute

I sit here in my classroom like I do every morning, and check my email.

And I get the message.

We lost a student. Graduate of 2005. Killed in the line of duty in Iraq.

I don't even think he was 20 years old.

I knew him, and my heart aches.

Hang in there T. It's tough for everyone. We can work harder to make this world a better place.

Man. You read so much about everything in the news and it sort of desensitizes you to it all. But when it's someone you know, it suddenly makes everything real. :/

My heart and prayer go out to his family.

I am so very sorry, Sara.

It is never easy. I remember still the time I had my first two marines die while we were off doing our stuff. Both were kids. I still remember it vividly even today.

I hope you are okay and you have my prayers.

That is terrible. Particularly in light of the tragedy at Virginia Tech.

We just lost a local kid, too. Heartbreaking. He was in the class between my daughter and my son and they both knew him a little. My daughter called me in tears and said 'He was just a baby!'. Heartbreaking, just heartbreaking. What's worse is that he had emailed his parents the day before and said he didn't think we were doing much good over there. So very, very sad.

I agree with Chris. We hear about deaths in Iraq every single night on the news. After awhile you forget that those are people's brothers and husbands/wives, former students...

I am so sorry, Sara. Makes it so much more real.
