Push Present

So I've been reading some books on pregnancy and stuff, and I think it's funny that they seem to have these "Leave this page open for your husband" pages about "push gifts."

Push gifts, I've learned are something to supposedly motivate you in labor. They usually include something sparkly and shiny, like a diamond necklace or a nice pair of earrings.

I can't help but think, "HUH?!" I mean, I'm sorry, but I don't think you're going to have to MOTIVATE ME at that point, and I'm probably going to be motivated by BEING DONE WITH IT ALREADY. And, for me, also to find out if it's a boy or a girl.

(I could find out tomorrow at our ultrasound if I wanted to, but I don't. I'm all about the surprise.)

Sparkly things are nice, but I really don't have much--in fact, the only sparkly things I have are my wedding/engagement rings, and a nice pair of earrings and simple necklace my parents gave me when I graduated undergrad and graduate school. Now THAT I had to work for--and for a LONG time. I sort of feel like the baby will be a present enough. It's not like I really have anywhere to wear fancy sparkly things, anyway.

But, if I had to choose a push gift....hmmmm....what would it be?

Something along these lines:

Yeah. Motivation, indeed.

NOW we're talkin'.

(And this just in...a 2:42.21 marathon while pushing a jogging stroller? I could SO do that....piece of cake...)

That whole 'push gifts' idea is about the most patronizing thing I've heard in a long time. Like it's Daddy's job to get Mommy to do what she needs to do? ICK!

On the other hand - if you get a nice new bike out of the deal along with a baby, so much the better.

Trimama required no push gifts, just my hand to squeeze(owww) and my voice to hear.

Nice....P3 in the delivery room unveiled at the right time...Doc might need a catchers mit.

Might need a catcher's mit like tc boy said!! LOL. Motivated to get done! Indeed!! Yay! DON'T find out what it is! It's really special to wait until birth. My opinion of course ;-)

I never heard of a push present. A new carbon road bike might motivate me to have another kid. OK, maybe not.

Happy Mother's Day...

Can I collect back-pay presents for the kids already here? Sounds dumb to me, personally, but then again- if you can score some good stuff, great. I'm happy enough with the baby that arrives.

I find some of those "Dad tips" and stuff to be the dumbest things I've ever read. Not all dads are bumbling idiots that can't figure out most of it as they go along, just like moms.

Get Matt a "push gift" too. Something along the lines of a new vacuum cleaner or lawnmower, haha.

Eagerly awaiting the "baby names" post. :)

Hope you're well and keep that way.

And what? Do you hold out for better push gifts if it's an aluminum bike instead of carbon or if it some with stock wheels instead of Zipp speed weaponry?

"No---*pant pant*---I specifically told you to get he ---***gasp ARRRRGGGGH**** 606'S and the carbon compact cranks YOU IDIOT"

Good luck with getting a push gift.

Sure that guys 2:41 is wicked fast, but his kid only weighs like 15 pounds. Have him try pushing a 5 year old and then report back to us.

That's got to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Like getting the kid out isn't motivation enough!

My MIL gave my husband an obnoxious touchy feely new father book - after reading it for 5 minutes he put it down, looked at me and said "Hey! Now I'm nauseous too!" : )

(Second trimester just started for me - to celebrate, I puked my guts out this morning.)

That is something new to me. Never heard of a push present, sounds like a crock of do do to me. Besides when your in active labor trust me, you will not be thinking of anything or a gift at that point.

Besides I think the real gift is the child you and Matt are bringing to the world. What would be better than that?

Push gifts? Gawd, I may never want to have kids now.

I'm glad my wife didn't read that part (push gifts) when she had our kid.

Hey how about a dad's push gift.. I was there in the delivery room as well. Might have to pencil that in the book.

I love your new label! Yes I would have to agree with you, but then again, I am a boy, and i know plenty of girls who have received the push give, and a few who even expected one.

What is up with the Trek Equinoxes lately? First Wes, and then you throw one up there, is there something I don't know about?

Don't you need a cute baby seat for that new bike?

I had a friend whose present was a Dr Pepper. She was that big of a caffeine addict!!

I'd settle for cake! =)

Now that is what I am talking about! You know how they have those dumb ads on TV at Christmas time with the guy giving his wife a diamond pendant or something? I told my husband that really if he wanted to get something that expensive it better have two wheels and aerobars. I think you and I are on the same page!
