tough love

*glaring*

*glaring back*

*annoyed sigh* What?

What are you looking at?

Don't give me that look.

I'm not giving any look.

Bullshit. Yes you are.

Well, you know, you can hate me and get mad all you want but it's not going to change anything.

So?

So it might make you temporarily feel better, but in the end, you know I'm right.

Shut up.

I'm just saying.

I know, alright?! I know the numbers don't lie. I know you are right and I hate it.

Well, what did you expect me to do?

What are you talking about?

Did you expect me to let you feel ready? *laughing* Do you HONESTLY think you were READY? Little Miss "I Ride Flat Road Fast"? Do you think that-matters--that it's all you need to do this?

*sulking* Sometimes I hate you.

I know.

But sometimes I really like you.

We have a dysfunctional relationship, you and I.

You're brutally honest. Sometimes you are too honest.

No such thing, sweetheart.

Dammit. You're right again.

So you know what you need to do.

Yeah. I know.

It's not what you want to hear. But I'm just gonna keep saying it until you listen to me.

I'm listening....

No--you weren't. But I think I finally got your attention. This is your weakness. Not me, but THIS.

I know, OK?! I know I know I KNOW I KNOW....

HEY! SETTLE DOWN. Look, we can pull this off, but you need to start making it a priority. No more flat stuff. You, me, and that stupid course that broke you down last week.

*silence*

That's what it's going to take. You don't make it a priority and you won't make it. Plain and simple.

I know. You're right again.

*smug look*

I hate it when you're right.

So are we cool again?

*sigh*

Yeah, we're cool.

Good. Now get your butt on me and go ride in the Valley with Jen and Sam.

I like swimming and running better.

I know you do. But in the end, it's all about me, baby.

Exactly! You'll spend more than 1/2 the course cycling. It's all about the bike, baby!

I know what you mean. Biking is HARD! But it's nice to have someone to talk to when you're out on the road all by yourself.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who hates hills.

Go get em, girl! Well hope you had a good ride!!

East side hills calling ya?? Perhaps I will get ya over in my nexk of the woods soon.

BTW, I was bummed to miss the Sat. training session that I had planned on attendting...but I just knew it would run me too late into the morning to do the other things I had planned!

I'm planning on having this same tough conversation next week after my half marathon, when it WILL become ALL about the bike. *heavy sigh....*

I'm glad you had that talk with "self". Time to get on the hills. I rode in Daisy's next of the woods and there is some great stuff out there to ride. I would recommend checking out what she has to offer.

Hills make you stronger and faster, hands down.

I'm totally with you! I thought my bike and I had a good relationship until the 40 miler on Sunday.

It's time to get revenge!

"get your but on me and go ride..." it was at this point that I thought to myself "ok not talking with a person.."

cheers.

Rice.

I would venture to say that your postive attitude will pull you through just fine! You can do it!

Hey! Sorry I haven't written lately. I've been keeping up, just in lurk mode.

To answer your question from the weekend, yes the bike does get easier. I think those early long rides are a good kick in the butt! But each sequential ride seems to get a little easier and suddenly these long rides don't seem as bad anymore.

Hang in there. And get some hills underneath you. You'll be fine. :) Just a few more months away! I can't wait to meet you and the rest of the IMWI blogging crew! :)

Exactly, you have to do it and just do it. Your doing great and will rock at the races you have planned.

Your bike can talk? Cool!

Way to hang tough.

I could introduce you to some of my friends who live in the valley. I see them often. There's Martin, Ira, Everett, Major, my favorite Oak Hill, and some others too.

Hope you can meet some of them two Wednesdays from now.

Glory is found on the flats and honesty is found on the hills.

Keep working at it.

Stay tuned...

TST,when riding the hills ( and it is almost impossible not here, they are evrywhere!!) 2 things usally occur to me the first is " I can't wait till the top when I get to fly by that skinny chick that dropping me like I'm standing still on this freakin climb!" the second thing I think about is George Hindcappie; he had nevr thought of himself as a hill climber, then he did 2 things started training on lots of hills and secondly , changed his whole mindset about hills, he refused to have the whole "I am not a hill climber" convo going! The result was a stage win last year, so while I am not George( I weigh about twice what he does!!:)) I can climb hilss and not engage in the non hill climber convo, while it is still early in my change the resulte are encouraging! So , climb hills and while we may not like them , we don't need not fear them ,and the best part is for every uphill there is a down hill (and the Buddha rocks the down hill)!!

What a great post!!! Isn't it great how your bike and your shoes always know just what to say when you need a little encouragement?
Keep up the strong training and work like the dickens until September.
