This Is Just To Say

I remember being 17, sitting in my AP English class, and loving this poem.

Sometimes you just have to say what's on your mind.

This is just to say
that cancer is scary and awful and
I am very afraid

And I'm trying as hard as I can
to stay positive
but I don't have a good track record
with cancer versus people that I love

And it's bringing up old feelings
of grief and fear
and remembering people that I've lost
and it's hard

Some days are harder than others
and today is one of those days

...and that is all.

the one most important thing that I've learned in hours and hours of therapy is this:

Don't waste your time worrying about the things you cannot control. Worry about making the best of the things that you can.

You can't affect cancer. Spending your days worrying about what it might possibly do to your loved ones means that you're taking away time that could be spent loving them. I wish I would have realized this when my parents were alive.

Spend your days making good memories with those people, and not worrying about the unknown. That's what's going to stay with you - those good memories - in the event that they are taken from you.

hugs.

I love that poem.

You are not alone, and when facing fear, that is a wonderful thing.

Sorry seems like such a trivial word to say right now, but I am sorry. Take care of yourself the best you can.

I wish there was something I could do. But just know that the love you give is the best gift you can give and the one they will remember the most.

Cancer does suck and it is scary. The best thing you can do is stay focused and positive even when every ounce of your being doesn't want to. Hang in there.
