I finally did.
I've been waffling about it for about 3 months...."Should I? I dunno....that's expensive...but it's pretty sweet....I dunno...."
Sack up. I bought it. Boo ya.
'Cuz you know what? It is kinda a big deal. The more I think about it, I remember this. And I think I deserve to have one from my first Ironman. So that's that.
I also ordered a new swimsuit from the Grab Bag at Swimoutlet.com...here's hoping it's not as fugly as the one that Pharmie's poor sister Steph got! I've been lacking some swim mojo lately, so I'm hoping maybe a new suit might do the trick. Like new running shoes...you know, they have that "new shoe" smell?
(OK. Maybe that only works for cars)
But new shoe FEEL. It just gets you excited, and if that's what it takes to get me a little motivation, then I'll take it. It's a good $19.95 gamble.
Today my freshmen were filling in a map about Europe at the outbreak of WWI, and we were discussing the English Channel. Someone asked how far across it is, and I guessed about 20 miles (turns out it's 21--not a bad guess!), since I said it can't be THAT far if people swim across it. "Not far? Maybe for YOU!" one kid said. I had to laugh at that. "Um, no guys, that's way too far for me." So some of my students then decided that's what I should set as my next goal.
No thanks...2.4 is quite enough for me. :)
I'm pretty pumped for the SimplyStu Worldwide Triathlon and for the Indy Mini Marathon! These should be fun...and interesting....
And on a positive note, only 6 more days until March!
OK. I'm not usually like this, but I get a little antsy this time of year. February can be a bit dreary in these parts. I don't mind the cold, but I definitely am not down with the gray. March brings spring and sun and even an early daylight savings time this year! Yahooooooo for more daylight!
And, of course, March Madness. GO BUCKS! But, why does Oden look like he's about 37?
Man, I'm all over the place with this post. I guess that just kind of sums up how I feel right now. A little. All. Over. The. Universe.
So my jacket should arrive in a week or two, and my new suit...and I will be all decked out and ready to go. Come on, March...

I love new shoe smell. I just got some new mizunu's and I love them.
So is there a new swimsuit smell? Or how about the new bike smell?
See you soon.
All I have to say is...GO BUCKY!
1. i LOVE LOVE LOVE race gear, so i dont blame you for wanting a kickass ironman jacket. wear it with pride, you deserve it.
2. i have a swimsuit and it stinks. enough said.
3. thank you thank you thank you for your generousity! you dont know what that means to me! i might have to make a trip to OH (sans baby maker tommy b) to give you a huge hug!
Looks like 37??? Are you saying 37 is old???
I also love the new shoe smell. I have one pair of running shoes that still has it and it is my favorite pair (for now).
You're damn right you deserve that jacket. Do we get a pic? I was browsing swimoutlet.com the other day too. They have some pretty cool stuff. I need a new swim suit too....
Oh, absolutely splurge on the jacket. Who cares what it costs? There will come a day, many decades in the future, when no matter how hard you've tried to take care of yourself, you just won't be able to do an IM any more. But you'll still be able to wear that jacket! You'll wear it with pride, and you'll wonder why you even hesitated to get it.
Enjoy, and post a pic of yourself in it when it arrives!
Hmmm... Is this a pre-cursor to a on-line fashion show? :)
yeah...what's wrong with 37..??
enjoy the new jacket. hope to have one myself one day.
You have to show off your IM colors after the 1st one. One of the perks..
Spring is definetly in the air. earlier sunrises. Time for "game on", I say..
If something new to wear in the water would get me over the swimming hump I'm in. However, I think it will take much more that money can't buy to get me gliding through the water.
New running shoes are the best! New swimsuit... not doing it for me. New goggles, however... that is exciting. You don't realize what a fog you have been swimming in until you get a nice new pair of clean goggles.
Wear your jacket with pride!!
Whoa, simmer down there! :) Hey, nothin's wrong with 37! It's just that he's 18!! Which, as my buddy Jon likes to say, makes him a "man-face-boy."
yeah, i hear ya about the gray. and, OF COURSE you need that jacket. you freaking earned it!
You will enjoy your IMM Moo jacket. I loved my Gasparilla after doing the challenge there. Everytime I wear it I think of the races and proud of it especially given how I won hardware. It was an amazing time and I loved the competition and the jacket you have will bring those memories.
You'll love the jacket.
And if your suit IS as "fugly" as Stephs, we all deserve a picture! You owe us that!
I too have been contemplating getting a jacket, or at least a shirt, for the last few months (all the same reasons). I still may have to.
I second the dreary Feb feeling. March and April, here we come.
Good luck with the grab bag, and thanks for the link!
sometimes in all your coolness, I forget you're a bucks fan.
*sigh*
:)
Do post pictures of the IMWI jacket when you get it please! I got one a few years back. I wonder if it's the same?
Six days until March! As bad as February sucks, at least it's only 28 days long! :)
Woohoo!! Good for you getting that jacket---you totally deserve it!!
New swimming suits are wierd in that they actually fit snuggly as they are supposed to unlike my half see-through old ones!
I'm glad you got the jacket - that's sort of thing you'd probably be bummed about after it wasn't available any more.
I just got new shoes running shoes and it's the best feeling : )
You should definitely get an IM jacket!!! Show off a little, you've earned it.
I can't wait for pics of the jacket. I would have ordered it the next day, baby!
I see the English Channel in your future. Be honest; you had those fantasies while IM training. I know I did. And then clocked a whopping 2.5 miles.
March on!
I'm sending good vibes that your new suit won't be butterfly infested! Haven't commented in a while. Glad to be back and reading your great blog.
Make sure you post a pix of you with the jacket on! My only regret after finished IM Canada is that I DIDN"T buy myself anything after the race.... (except a pair of earrings, which have since been lost!)
Chuckles about Oden. Just saw a story on him on ESPN last weekend and I thought he was some older NBA player... only to realize he is a College Hoops guy... crazy! can't wait for MARCH MADNESS! Go Tarheels!
