First of all, to those who left me such nice comments on my last post, thank you. I've put that post back where it belongs--the draft section, where I've been writing a lot lately, as sometimes I just need to write for me...with no explanations. I could tell by the looks of it that what I wrote had many of my bloggy friends a bit concerned, which was unintentional. So then, I think some people being the awesome people they are wanted more of an explanation, or were trying to guess what I meant and to figure out what the heck I was talking about, when in reality I really just am not willing to explain here. So--draft mode is my friend. :) Thanks for your kind words, though. You all rock.
Basically, I'm a little overwhelmed and a lot out of things to say that I would want to share here. So, I think I'll just lurk around for a little bit here as the year winds down until I sort stuff out, and get some infinite wisdom and inspiration from you. K?
That, and I leave for Hawaii very soon. Of which, in itself, is still quite overwhelming to me as I feel like that's another thing I have no business doing right now. But, plans were made long before some things happened....so here we are. Here I go. And I'm going to try not to worry about the practical side of it and just freaking ENJOY it. Anyone been to Maui and have some good hikes to recommend?
Last night when I was a kinda down, my buddy Sammy called.
This girl prolly knows me better than anyone in the universe. We've been through quite a bit in the past 11 years. And we are SO on the same page right now, it isn't even funny--with the exception of triathlon stuff, she's basically me, but the Indiana version. And tall and blonde. Other than that, though...dead on...Anyways, when I was explaining stuff to her she told me to just "give it up to the universe...." Actually, she said that about 6 times and I started making fun of her.
"What is that, your new THING? Is that like saying 'Fetch' in Mean Girls?"
We laughed a lot and I miss her tons. I hope she can come see me soon.
As usual, she knew just what to say and to tell me. And, I think giving things up to the universe is going to be my plan of action for a bit.
Happy Holidays to all! I'll be back soon.

Have a great time in Hawaii and spend your week relaxing! It's one of the few places in the world that worries aren't allowed. Take lots of pictures!
Jodi
Must do's:
1. See the sun rise on Haleakala and bike down. It is 38 miles with absolutely zero pedaling! We used Maui Downhill. It is best to do it right when you arrive as you will still be on eastern time on your body clock so getting up in the middle of the night is easy
2. Drive the road to Hana..buy a "tape tour" to play in the rental car.
3. At the end to of the road to Hana at the "7 sacred pools" there is a great trail hike up to Waimoku Falls...it is worth the hike.
4. Don't listen to the advise that you have to drive the road to hana back the way you came...continue from La Perouse Bay to Makena..it is an easy drive.
5. Treat youself to dinner at Nick's Fishmarket....AWESOME.
5.Go to the Old Lahina Luau
6. Do one (or more) of the countless snorkling trips
Ok...I will shut up now...but these are things we really enjoyed. Mr.Buckeye
Do what you have to do and tell us about it later. We understand.
Have a great time in Hawaii! You will LOVE it there.
Do everything buckeyerunner said and if you find yourself on Oahu e-mail me; I'll show you the "local" side of Hawaii. Have a great trip.
You are going to Hawaii? Well, nothing at all to worry about then. I hope you get to see Kuaii. What a fantastic place to relax and maybe get in a few runs, eh?
I'll miss reading your stuff while you're taking a break, but you do what you've got to do. Hope you have a great trip and that your break serves its purpose to help you sort through whatever it is that needs sorting. Take care.
Have a good time and relax, if you around KOna, check out the famous IM course, that is pure motivation there. Safe trip for everybody.
the giving it up to the universive thing? i'm right there with ya. definitely. it's hard, but totally necessary.
have an awesome time in hawaii. i'll miss ya here in blog-land.
Hawaii!! So cool. Relax and enjoy!!
I totally missed something...doh :)
Have a great trip to Hawaii! You are going to have a great time. Sit back and relax and soak up the sun. If you make it to the Big Island go to Manuna Kea (highest point in Hawaii) and see the sunset. It is ridiculous.
Take care...
I'll miss your posts while you're gone. Enjoy Hawaii. Take care of yourself.
Life is funny eh.. like trying to carry a bag of apples without the bag.. … No that’s not it… lets see, life is like wanting to pick up a bag of apples without the bag but not really knowing how.. AND watching others doing it, with veering degrees of success… maybe that’s it…
Myself I’m just going to take one, for now.. I might just eat it in the store too..
Cheers
Rice.
I'm going to miss you - your humor and your insight... Lucky Hawaiians! Hope all the other stuff works out too. :)
"Give it up to the universe." Hmm, I kind of like that phrase.
So go to Hawaii and just relax. Hope to see you when you get back.
Asolutely - forget about being practical and enjoy the opportunity you have right now!!! Soak it up, girl - you deserve it!
Hawaii sounds amazing!! Enjoy your time there and leave your worries behind in Ohio!!!
Enjoy your time in Hawaii and take the advice from your friend!
HAVE FUN!
Have fun in Maui...definitely get up to Haleakala and I guess there are some great hikes in that area! Everyone says get to Hana-but you can't take rental cars there. It's a rutted dirt road...maybe you can rent 4WD vehicles now.
Where are you staying?
Have a "burger in pardise" for me- OK? :-)
Wow. I've never been to Hawaii but I'm dying to go. Have a great time. And don't worry. You're bike will still be there, waiting patiently, when you get back.
I lived in Hawaii for three years and I agree with everything Buckeye said. (well, most everything.) One word of advice for the road to Hana, if you have a tendency to get carsick, take some dramamine first. It is worth it though. Enjoy all the little stops along the road too. There are a lot of places to pull of and walk around.
I saw you on the registration list for the New Years Virtual Triahtlon. 25 yard swim?!?!? You can do SO MUCH better than than! What gives?
We actually still have our 'Road to Hana' tape from our trip...you are more than welcome to use it instead of spending $25 when you get there. Do rental cars still have tape decks?
OK, I was interested until I saw Ted Drewes. My mom used to tell me stories about how I was weened off formula as a baby with frozen custard from Ted Drewes. Haven't lived in St Louis in decades but I have some great memories of that place.
Thanks for bringing back the memories!
I'm a little behind on blogs but it sounds like things are starting to look up again.
You are definitely good enough - but those stupid external things that make us question it just suck. But that's why you've got such great friends: to remind you that even when you don't know if you're strong enough, they know you are and remind you.
